Do you love your pup but cannot cuddle because of its matted hair and sharp nails?
If yes, then you need to take it for a grooming session. Grooming is something that
pups are not naturally used to, but there is a way to prepare it for its first session so
that it gets used to it for the years to come and put up with it without feeling
stressed or showing bad behavior.
Here are some tips you could follow in this regard.
Begin early. A pup as young as 16 weeks is good to go for its first grooming
session. It is easier to train a pup when it is young than when it is older. Starting
to groom early has other benefits, too – it helps to keep the pup healthy and
clean from a young age.
Start at home. Prepare by placing the pup on a high surface, like a table or on
the top of a washing machine, to give it a feel of the grooming table. Gently
touch its fingers, massage its nails, area near the eyes, and pat its coat. Keep
doing it for a few days before the session.
Do a bit of light grooming at home. Start by brushing your pup’s coat every day.
Give it an occasional bath. Try to clean its ears and trim its nails if you can.
Ensure that ear cleaning is done once a month and nail trimming bi-weekly or till
the nail does not touch the ground while the pup stands on the floor. Nail
trimming is important as it prevents arthritis and protects the rugs and carpets
at home from scratches.
Wish you luck with the grooming. For good grooming equipment,
